Investment motivation encompasses personal and social commitments aimed at learning and using a specific
language. It consists of the reasons and motivators that influence individuals’ decisions to spend time, effort, and emotional
energy to enhance their language proficiency. Personal interests, career objectives, social connections, and identity
formation all play a role in this type of motivation. Darvin and Norton (2017) emphasize the significance of making investments
in developing a positive language learner identity. They highlight that individuals who invest in language learning
are more likely to increase their self-confidence, motivation, and engagement in language abilities. Furthermore, investments
in language learning assist individuals in shaping their social identity as they navigate their roles and memberships
within various language communities.
