article examines the underlying causes of alcohol and drug addiction, highlighting psychological, social
and behavioural factors that contribute to the development of dependency. Special attention is given to the role of psychoactive
substances, psychological vulnerability, motivational aspects and addictive behavioural patterns. The analysis
also explores how psychological defence mechanisms and emotional fascination contribute to persistent substance use.
