The article discusses key concepts of sociolinguistics, dialectology, accents, national pronunciation standards,
and phenomena such as bilingualism, diglossia, interference, and code-switching. It highlights that pronunciation
norms are dynamic rather than fixed and continue to evolve under social and cultural influences. Furthermore, the study
questions the necessity of achieving native-like pronunciation and proposes intelligibility as a more realistic and appropriate
goal for most learners of English as an international language.
